Now almost extinct in Egypt and now universally used as an ornamentalplant. Common motif in art. The roots were used as fuel; the pith waseaten. The stem was used for sandals, boats, twine, boxes, mats, sails,cloth and most notably as a writing material. Popular easy to maintaininterior plant. Grasslike leaves on tips of tall stalks give plant an umbrella appearance. Can be grown in just water without any soil. Mica pots are made of 80% mica, 15% polyethelene and 5% graphite. Micahas a natural ability to stabilize the temperature of the soil in thepots.
