Tree Sculpture (15" x 13) - Windswept
This one-of-a-kind tree sculpture is created by prominent artist Sal Villano and is fashioned with wire gages ranging from 32 to 18. The wire used is bronze anodized aluminum wire which will retain its color and strength for many years. This is the same wire that we use for training bonsai. The tree sculpture is bonded onto its base, which is a glazed ceramic bonsai, using sea sand. Since the bond is made onto a porous material, a water soluble glue is used and, therefore, the sculpture should never be placed in a dishwasher. Also known as the Chinese Juniper. This needled evergreen is tolerant ofa wide variety of soils and is dioecious which means that there areseparate male and female plants. Shimpaku is a naturally irregular vaseshaped Juniper which we grow into a traditional upright style. TheShimpaku has attractive year round foliage and its dark green needlesare soft to the touch. Dwarf Japanese Cedar - 17"x16"x21" (cryptomeria japonica 'globosa nana')
The Cryptomeria is a single species with a number of varieties. Thegenus is Taxodiaceae. In some ways they resemble the Giant Redwoods suchas Sequoia with the flaky bark and needle structure, but although theyhave flaking bark, Cryptomeria have a much harder wood than Sequoia andthe needles are longer in growth. The 'globosa nana' is a very low,weeping mounding conifer that is very slow growing. Our double-trunkspecimen resembles an overturned mop.
