Lorelei Lee (Marilyn Monroe) and her friend Dorothy Shaw (Jane Russell) are a pair of showgirls, Dorothy the sassy one looking for true love, Lorelei the blonde hoping to marry a millionaire, with her sights set on Gus Esmond, a wealthy nerd stuck under his father`s thumb. When Lorelei and Dorothy take a transatlantic cruise to Paris, an undercover detective follows to find out if Lorelei is really a gold-digging schemer. Unfortunately, the irrepressible Lorelei is a born flirt and soon finds herself in a compromising position with Sir Francis Beekman (Charles Coburn), owner of a diamond mine. The girls have to use all their wits to get out of trouble and still find love and marriage. Thanks to the talents of the luminous stars and director Howard Hawks, plus stunning technicolor cinematography, GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES emerges as one of the most charming, entertaining musicals of the 1950s. Marilyn Monroe, never more luminous, sings her legendary musical number Diamonds Are a Girl`s Best Friend (which later inspired Madonna`s Material Girl video). GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES is based on the hit Broadway musical which was adapted from the book by Anita Loos.

Mo` Better Blues (DVD)
Spike Lee ventures into the world of jazz music with this stylish romantic drama. Forced by his mother to study the trumpet, Bleek Gilliam (Denzel Washington) has grown up to become the leader of a successful jazz quintet. Managed by his inept friend, Giant (Lee), Bleek clashes with fellow band member Shadow Henderson (Wesley Snipes). Making matters worse is Bleeks romantic situation: trying to balance two different women at the same time--schoolteacher Indigo Downes (Joie Lee) and aspiring singer Clarke Bentancourt (Cynda Williams). In a hysterical moment, the line is blurred when, while making love, Bleek calls each woman by the others name. As he struggles to keep the quintet alive and flourishing, he must decide once and for all what it is he really wants: Indigo, Clarke, or his trumpet. The son of jazz musician Bill Lee, who contributes music to the film, Lee has written a script that crackles with witty behind-the-scenes banter that feels natural and fresh. Ernest R. Dickersons camera moves at an even brisker pace than in other Lee films, which compliments the bouncy soundtrack, making MO BETTER BLUES an entertaining ride.R"

Pam Grier rocketed to stardom as the queen of blaxploitation films with this big cult hit. Director Jack Hill, who had launched her film career two years earlier with THE BIG DOLL HOUSE, here casts Grier as a hardworking nurse out to avenge her smack-addicted 11-year-old sister by waging a one-woman war on Los Angeles drug dealers. Better believe she can do it, too. After her cop friend Carter (William Elliott) is beaten up for not being crooked, Foxy decides to go undercover as a high-class Jamaican prostitute for King George (Robert Doqui), a super mack-daddy pimp with big-time heroin connections. There`s a really memorable scene at a party, where Coffy battles King George`s other prostitutes in a spectacular cat fight, and of course, lots of other slam-bang action is in the works as Coffy shoots, slashes and seduces her way to the top of the drug ring. Through it all, Grier keeps her character vulnerable and sweet, in a truly amazing performance. The rock-solid funk score is by Roy Ayers. Co-stars include Sid Haig, Allan Arbus, and Booker Bradshaw is Coffy`s politician boyfriend. Hill and Grier re-teamed the following year with a sort-of-sequel, FOXY BROWN.
