Ross (Jason Schwartzman) is an addict badly in need of some speed. A visit to his dealer, Spider Mikes (John Leguizamo)--where fellow tweakers Nikki (Brittany Murphy)--a stripper, Frisbee (Patrick Fugit)--a metalhead, and Cookie (Mena Suvari)--Mike`s girlfriend--turns into an odyssey, though, when Mike can`t find his stash. Nikki tells Ross that her boyfriend, crazed cowboy The Cook (Mickey Rourke), can supply whatever he needs. The two of them visit The Cook at his motel lab, and Ross quickly gets his fix. Ross, however, is put into service as The Cook`s errand boy and chauffeur, with only brief periods of freedom to check up on the stripper girlfriend he left tied to his bed back at his apartment. Ross three days without sleep reaches a feverish head when it becomes evident that two cops (Peter Stormare and Alexis Arquette) have raided Spider Mike`s pad in search of The Cook.
This relentlessly crude and graphic feature from Swedish music video director Jonas Ackerlund is not for the faint-of-heart. Lightening-fast edits, sexually explicit animation, Farrelly-Brothers-level rudeness, and a pervasive sense of nihilism swirl together to create a morally empty Los Angeles of seedy abodes and cinder-block strip malls inhabited by corrupt cops and thrill-seeking lawbreakers. Set to a memorable score by Billy Corgan, Mickey Rourke`s memorable turn paves the way for a game young cast.

Bloody Sunday (DVD)
In documentary style, Paul Greengrass` BLOODY SUNDAY, which chronicles the events of January 30, 1972 in Derry, Ireland, is filmed with gritty gray realness. Surrounding a peaceful protest march staged in contest to British laws that permitted internment without trial, the film charts the progress of the march from the night before it to the night following it. As the final organizing of the march takes place that morning, MP Ivan Cooper (James Nesbitt) rushes from the street where police barriers are being erected to his office where he fields a string of urgent phone calls. Meanwhile Major General Ford (Tim Pigott-Smith) arranges for a heavily armed troop of commandos in fatigues and face paint to be ready to intercept the march if it turns violent. A third persona, Kevin McCorry (Allan Gildea), is a young lad with a prison record who believes in the cause of the march but wants to avoid conflict and any real trouble. As the march proceeds, and chaos ensues, the British militia opens fire onto the unarmed crowds, shooting 27 and killing 13 in one of the most shocking instances of excessive force in Irish history, ending any hope of nonviolent resolution, and stoking the IRA.R"

SEX WITH STRANGERS focuses on swinging--or couples engaging openly in sex with other, often multiple, partners. Filmed on digital video over a year by filmmakers Joe and Harry Gantz (HBO`s Taxicab Confessions), the film observes two couples and and a trio who partake in what is known by insiders as The Lifestyle. Twentysomethings Calvin and Sarah opened up their relationship to Julie and include her as a permanent fixture to their practices. Married thirtysomething medical professionals James and Theresa spend their free time cruising bars and clubs in their R.V. looking for potential lovers, then discussing their experiences the day after. Southerners Shannon and Gerard met when he was 32 and she was 17, married, then tried swinging when it was suggested by a marriage counselor. Though what is presented is fairly explicit, a minimal amount of sex is actually shown in Gantz`s film. Instead, SEX WITH STRANGERS chooses to examine the manner in which swinging affects an otherwise committed relationship--and the result appears to be determined by the emotional constitution of the participants. Calvin`s emotional distance appears to be the undoing of sensitive Sarah, while James and Theresa could be an advertisement for The Lifestyle. Problems between Shannon and Gerard, however, appear to be beyond anything that any amount of additional partners could ever repair.NR"
