No Man`s Land (DVD)
Dani Tanovic`s debut film about the futility of the Bosnian War stars Branko Duric as Ciki, a Bosnian soldier with really bad luck. When he and a few other relief soldiers try to join their Bosnian comrades on the front, they get lost in fog, fall asleep, and are awakened at dawn by Serbian gunfire. His comrades are all blown away, but Ciki saves himself by diving into an abandoned trench in no man`s land. Nino (Rene Bitorajac), a Serbian soldier, sneaks into the trench and finds Ciki. Though both men are armed and dangerous, they are nonetheless unable to escape the trench without getting shot at by either side. The UN is called in to fix the situation but it only make matters worse. When an English journalist, Jane Livingston (Katrin Cartlidge), gets wind of the story, a media frenzy breaks out across the front.
Tanovic knows his subject matter well as he worked as a war documentarian during the Bosnian conflict. The title of the film, NO MAN`S LAND, is especially fitting given the setting--rolling hills covered with flowers, birds, and insects. The background sound is filled with birds chirping and bugs buzzing, and Tanovic also composed the soundtrack.R"

Kentucky Fried Movie (DVD)
A movie that helped plant the seeds of Saturday Night Live and gave the Zucker brothers a foot in Hollywood`s door, this long-revered television and movie satire combines sex and bathroom humor with timeless sight gags and slapstick. The uproarious film spoofs everything from television commercials, movie trailers, porn, and pop culture in general in a series of hysterical sketches. Infamous sketches include Cleopatra Schwartz, a blaxploitation spoof featuring a sexy Amazon married to a rabbi; and the extended kung fu film parody A Fistful of Yen. Raunchy humor and hysterical commentary on the media are served up with reckless abandon by the likes of Bill Bixby, Henry Gibson, George Lazenby, and Donald Sutherland, among countless others.R"

Mama Africa (DVD)
MAMA AFRICA combines three short powerful films about young people in modern Africa. The films were directed by African women. Rapper and actress Queen Latifah introduces the films. UNO`S WORLD, from Namibia, tells the tale of a young woman, Uno (Sophie David), whose poor judgment leads to an unplanned pregnancy. While her mother watches her baby, Uno pursues the father, becoming involved with a drug dealer in order to track him down. HANG TIME, from Nigeria, opens with a kinetically filmed basketball game. Kwame (Brian Biragi) is a talented young player who can`t afford a decent pair of shoes. With a college scout coming from America to watch him play, the desperate Kwame goes to work for a local gangster to earn the money for his shoes. In the final film, RAYA, from South Africa, the title character (Rehane Abrahams) is a former drug dealer getting out of prison after five years. Unable to reconcile with her conservative Muslim mother, she takes her young daughter and goes to live with a member of her old gang. MAMA AFRICA poignantly depicts family dynamics and gives the audience a view of contemporary urban Africa rarely seen on the screen.NR"
