On Our Merry Way (DVD)
Also released under the title A MIRACLE CAN HAPPEN, this three-part anthology features vignettes that are connected by a question from feature reporter Oliver Pease (Burgess Meredith): Has a child ever changed your life? In the first episode Henry Fonda and James Stewart star as Lank and Slim, a pair of squabbling jazz musicians who try to pick up some extra money by rigging a music contest. Little do they know that their scam involves a babe rather than a baby. The second, which stars Dorothy Lamour and Victor Moore as movie extras Gloria Manners and Ashton Carrington trying to contend with an obnoxious child star, parodies Lamour`s sarong-clad image. In the third section, which echoes O. Henry`s RANSOM OF RED CHIEF, Fred MacMurray and William Demarest star as hoboes Al and Floyd, who have been stuck with temporary custody of a young practical joker. To their misfortune, his wealthy uncle Eli Hobbs (Hugh Herbert) refuses to take him back without payment. Little seen even during its initial release, the film features a number of Hollywood heavyweights in fine performances. Despite a game effort by this star-studded cast, slapstick proved not to be Vidor`s metier. MacMurray and Demarest, however, have a natural chemistry that was to shine when they paired again on television`s MY THREE SONS.NR"

HENRY PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER, loosely based on the case of Henry Lee Lucas, a confessed serial killer, is a terrifyingly intimate journey into the twisted life of a murderous psychotic. As the blank-eyed Henry (Michael Rooker) drifts from place to place, he selects victims at random, slaughters them, and captures the brutality on videotape. When he is joined by his deranged roommate, a loudmouthed ex-convict named Otis (Tom Towles), the almost unfathomably malevolent acts multiply.
John McNaughton`s film, in the tradition of such classic studies of homicidal personality as PEEPING TOM and TAXI DRIVER, goes further than both of these movies in its flat refusal to tell the killer`s story on anything other than the killer`s terms. McNaughton is able to present the world Henry aimlessly traverses as Henry sees it--almost unendurably bleak and meaningless--and in doing so he allows his film to go as deep into the nightmarish mind of a killer as anything ever committed to celluloid.

Minnie and Moskowitz (DVD)
John Cassavetes paints another portrait of humans at dangerously fragile places in their emotional lives, but this time with a lighthearted comic touch. Moskowitz (Cassavetes regular Seymour Cassel) is a nutty parking lot attendant who decides to head for California. Minnie (Cassavetes`s wife, Gena Rowlands) is a museum curator whose relationship with a married man hits a dead end, thereby forcing her back into the dating world. When Moskowitz protects Minnie from a desperate suitor, a relationship forms that is at first raucous and bitter; eventually, however, the pair begins to realize that their differences pale in comparison to their inexplicable need to be together. After a vicious argument, they decide to give in and attempt a genuine partnership. As with all of Cassavetess directorial efforts, this film isn`t so much a traditional narrative as it is a series of seemingly insignificant moments that are at once emotional and strikingly honest. This is exemplified by the opening scene in a diner, where Cassel is hassled by a fellow customer, an off-the-wall individual who spouts beliefs and asks questions--that dont fully resonate until the final credits have rolled.PG"

Stakeout (DVD)
While on an FBI stakeout, detective Chris Lecce (Richard Dreyfuss) falls hard for Maria (Madeleine Stowe), the woman he`s supposed to be watching. Soon he`s inside her home enjoying a torrid love affair, while his young partner Bill Reimers (Emilio Estevez), waits across the street, looking through his binoculars and fuming. But the woman`s ex-boyfriend (Aidan Quinn), a crazed, escaped convict who is the real object of the stakeout, is on his way back to see her and poses a very dangerous threat to the new couple. Director John Badham`s entertaining blend of action and humor highlights the comic timing and chemistry between Dreyfuss and Estevez, who deliver first-rate performances.
