Finding Nemo (DVD)
IN THEATRES: MAY 30, 2003
FINDING NEMO, directed by Andrew Stanton and Lee Unkrich, follows Marlin (voiced by Albert Brooks), an overprotective clown fish father, as he desperately searches the sea for his missing son, Nemo (Alexander Gould). Marlin`s journey leads him beyond the Great Barrier Reef into deeper and darker waters, where he meets Dory (Ellen DeGeneres), a forgetful yet optimistic blue tang, and a number of not-so-friendly--and often very hungry--aquatic creatures. Meanwhile, little Nemo finds himself in a dentist`s fish tank in Syndey, Australia, along with other underwater captives, including Gill (Willem Dafoe), the group`s scarred Moorish idol leader. As Nemo works with his new friends on a plan to escape their tank, Marlin and Dory swim closer, but they`ll need more than just fins to get into the dentist`s office.
This fifth computer-animated outing by Pixar continues the company`s remarkable winning streak that began with TOY STORY. Like other Pixar films, FINDING NEMO features a story with heart--this time, a father-and-son tale--and thoroughly charming leads--in this case, Marlin, Nemo, and Dory. And, of course, there`s an army of fascinating supporting characters, including Bruce (Barry Humphries), a great white shark on a no-fish diet; Crush (director/screenwriter Stanton), a surfer-dude sea turtle; Peach (Allison Janney), a stuck-to-the-aquarium starfish; and Nigel (Geoffrey Rush), a bold pelican. However, what truly distinguishes NEMO from even its CGI cousins is its stunning depiction of aquatic life, from the colorful creatures on a coral reef to a blue whale on the vast expanse of the open ocean. By combining the aesthetic of a National Geographic marine life documentary with clever jokes and Hitchcock references, NEMO succeeds in its bid to up the ante for animated films yet again. And be sure to watch the credits or you just might miss something!G"

Sorcerer Hunters DVD Vol. 2 - Magical Desires (DVD)
THE SORCERER HUNTERS is a 26 episode television series that follows the exploits of a pair of dominatrix sisters, Chocolate and Tira Misu, and their ragtag band of sorcerer hunters that includes an uncontrollable skirt chaser, Carrot Glase, as well as Gateau Mocha, a muscular exhibitionist. Their quest, as dictated by the benevolent goddess Big Momma, is to save the peasants of the land from evil sorcery by any means necessary, which for Chocolate and Tira often means stripping down to their dominatrix outfits and turning sorcerers into drooling sycophants. Gleefully absurd and frequently hilarious, this series mixes sci-fi, fantasy, harmless innuendo, and a keen sense of whimsy into a thoroughly entertaining experience. Contains episodes 8-14.NR"

Against the Ropes (VHS)
Meg Ryan stars in this fictionalized account of real-life boxing manager Jackie Kallen, the first female to ever make a name for herself in the sport. As the film begins she`s just an assistant to the owner of a sleazy sporting arena, but her antagonism toward a mafia-affiliated boxing bigwig (Tony Shalhoub) and her hunch about the innate boxing talent of a young street thug named Luther (Omar Epps) lead her to take up managing. She recruits a retired trainer (Charles S. Dutton, who also directed) to mold Luther into a champ, and starts pushing and climbing through the sport`s rampant sexism. The script by Cheryl Edwards is packed with platitudes and great throwaway lines, and to its credit the film doesn`t shy away from showing Kallen`s less flattering angles. Ryan looks and sounds great, sporting a fun Midwestern accent and a series of sexy outfits as she sashays through the cigar smoke and testosterone, tough-talking her way to victory in argument after argument. Though set in the present, AGAINST THE ROPES has a grungy 1970s feel to it, recalling ROCKY, THE CHAMP, THE MAIN EVENT and other films of the era. The real-life Kallen served as an associate producer.PG-13"
