Bruce Springsteen - Video Anthology 1978-2000 (DVD)
This two-disc set features all of Bruce Springsteen`s official music videos as well as alternate versions, live television appearances, concert versions, and never-before-shown videos. When Springsteen became part of the music-video surge of the mid-1980s, he did so with a vengeance, hiring Brian De Palma and John Sayles to direct him in such MTV staples as Dancing in the Dark (featuring an early appearance by Courteney Cox), I`m on Fire, and Glory Days, with the latter two featuring Springsteen doing some genuine acting. For his videos from TUNNEL OF LOVE, Springsteen turned to Meiert Avis, who had previously worked with U2, and they made, among others, a fascinating video for Brilliant Disguise, which was done in one long, slow camera zoom on Springsteen sitting on a chair in a kitchen, singing live vocals. The first disc starts and ends with concert performances, going from Rosalita and The River to Spare Parts and the acoustic Born to Run. The second disc begins with videos from the HUMAN TOUCH and LUCKY TOWN albums, followed by Springsteen`s work with Jonathan Demme, Tim Robbins, and Sean Penn, including a 2000 performance of If I Should Fall Behind, featuring each member of the E Street Band taking a turn at the mike. Taken as a whole, this collection is a terrific overview of Springsteen`s work, from his early, crazier days to the later, more introspective work he has done since he has gotten married and had children.NR"

Creepshow (DVD)
In this collaboration with Stephen King, director George Romero assembles a distinguished cast and pays vividly hued homage to the E.C. horror comics of the 1950s. (This film appeared years before the TALES FROM THE CRYPT series.) Five creepy tales are strung together by a framing story involving a young boy being punished by his father for reading the gruesome, titular comic book. Fathers Day tells the tale of a family patriarch exacting beyond-the-grave revenge on the daughter who murdered him. In The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill, a Maine hayseed (King himself in a ridiculously over-the-top performance) is overtaken by a meteor-based plant growth. A cuckolded husband exacts watery revenge on his cheating wife and her lover in Something to Tide You Over. A hairy beast in a box is used for nefarious purposes at a university in The Crate. Finally, in Theyre Creeping Up on You, a wealthy, arrogant New Yorker with a fear of germs has a disturbing run-in with cockroaches during a blackout.
While the stories are a bit brief, the style is appropriate for the anthology format. Romeros use of garish colors to mimic the ink in comic books is visually appealing, preventing the gore on display from being too off-putting. Featuring early appearances by actors such as Ed Harris and Ted Danson, CREEPSHOW is eerie, engaging entertainment.R"
