Once and Again: Three Volume Collection (DVD) Sela Ward and Billy Campbell star in this popular but short lived ABC series as Lily Manning and Rick Sammler, two forty-ish divorcees with children who find themselves hopelessly attracted to one another. Much of the drama of the series revolves around the couple's reluctance to enter into a serious relationship after their previous ones ended so badly, and while both have children entering the murky waters of adolescence. One of television's few shows that takes a sophisticated and engaging look at a mature couple, ONCE AND AGAIN also develops its teenage and preteen characters much more than many shows that focus on high school. Romantic, funny, and thoughtful, ONCE AND AGAIN is consistently intelligent, witty, and deeply involving, thanks in no small part to its two excellent lead actors, who happen to make a beautiful and charming couple.
ACTORS: Sela Ward, Billy Campbell, Jeffrey Nordling, Susanna Thompson, Shane West
My Beautiful Laundrette (DVD) MY BEAUTIFUL LAUNDRETTE is a highly acclaimed and beautifully rendered portrait of two boyhood friends struggling to survive in racially tense Thatcher-era Britain. Omar, a homosexual Pakistani boy living in London with his alcoholic father, lifts a chunk of drug money from another Pakistani and, with his school chum Johnny, decides to renovate a grungy laundrette. Featuring seething dialogue and visually stunning camera work, the film explores the world of modern Pakistanis trapped between two cultures in Thatcher's Britain and their white working class counterparts with no future in their own country.
